Seoul in May
YESTERDAY:
- head to airport
- got there pretty quickly
- added a luggage for check-in
- got into a queue that took almost an hour to check-in luggage?
- still made it to flight 5 mins before boarding began, but … a bit tight
- took taxi from airport to hotel
- dropped off bags at the hotel
- hotel lady recommended a chicken soup place nearby
- very tasty actually
- chicken comes with rice inside
- soup is light and brothy
- you can add salt and pepper as desired to make the chicken more flavorful
- wandered around the huge palace
- lots of folks dressed up in Hanbok costumes
- bunch of rental shops nearby catering to these
- back to hotel to rest
- passed out
- Jackie went out to explore the area
- Jackie brought me back a fancy fish soup noodle from a convenient store
TODAY:
- spent part of the morning looking for a clinic that can prescribe more than acetominophen
- took a taxi ride across town to such a clinic with good reviews
- turns out they are closed until May 4th due to a Labor Day holiday -_-
- hotel receptionist helped us out though and found a clinic just a block from the hotel
- head all the way back
- found two old ladies that run a clinic on the 2nd floor
- English was pretty bad but they were super kind
- gave me a prescription for antibiotics (amoxicillin) and a few expectorant/suppressant combos
- they enjoyed learning that we were software engineers
- thought we were AI engineers
- I think she said her brother lives in SF but has diabetes and an insulin pump …
- her nephew lives in Chicago?
- dropped by the pharmacist downstairs
- super friendly and proficient in English
- even gave me the meds in little pouches, 3 per day
- Jackie found a noodle soup place for lunch
- Jackie had a clam soup
- Andrew had a torn noodle soup
- head back to rest
- took some meds and passed out
- Jackie headed to Myeongdong
- went to Olive Young and bought some sparkly lip stuff
- checked out food market and bought fried chicken
- Jackie brought me back an egg soup with rice
- little peppery but not bad
- maybe a bit light on protein
LEARNINGS:
- one of those things really dried out my nose
- didn’t fix my loss of hearing in the right ear though
